“Run, run for your dreams, don’t stop.”
In her first book entitled Kitesong, Wai Jia wrote these lines against an illustration of a child chasing after a runaway kite. Like children, she believes each of us have dreams- many of which are like kites waiting to be set free and soar. Kitesong, which was used to raise more than $110’000 to build a home for needy children in Nepal when she was 19, was a product of a little dream of hers realized. She learnt, that with hope and faith, many things are possible.
The writing and paintings in her books are inspired by the beautiful children she has met on various humanitarian trips in underprivileged countries. Their tenacious spirit in holding fast to their dreams like kitestrings in spite of their circumstance is a constant encouragement, in her journey to become a medical doctor. Her dream is that by sharing the hearts and hopes of these children, many will be touched and challenged to live their lives with more gratitude and compassion, and be moved to make a difference to those less fortunate. Having gone on mission trips to places like Nepal, China, India, Sri Lanka, Philippines, and Indonesia, she is inspired to pursue her dream of becoming a long-term missionary someday.
Her second book, entitled A Taste of Rainbow, is a book about hope and finding courage to seek help in the face of setbacks. As part of a public education drive, it will be used to promote healthy self-esteem through free distribution in public bookstores and libraries, and distribution to selected schools. Having overcome depression and anorexia herself, it is her dream to inspire others with the courage God has inspired her with.
She says, “Rainbows, to me, represent fulfillment. Hence, they are a frequent motif in my books as a symbol of hope, of the fulfilled dreams of children all around the world.”
Many rainbow-coloured kites, always make a more beautiful sky.
